A Huge Passing

My heart aches, bidding goodbye to Madeleine L’Engle, author of the beloved Wrinkle in Time and many other books… including my personal treasures, the memoirs A Circle of Quiet and The Summer of the Great Grandmother. Ms. L’Engle has died at the age of 88.

    My mother and I are pretty different people, but she gave me her old, battered copy of A Circle of Quiet many years ago. Maybe she couldn’t say everything she wanted to me, but Madeleine could speak for her. I treasure it, and the notes my mom left in the margins.
