These days, it can be hard to be hopeful or joyful. It can be hard to be an optimist. It can be hard to be human. There is So Much Noise. There is so much cruelty. So much, well, idiocy. So much overwhelm and upset.
But if we lose track of each other, if we lose track of all the goodness and wonder, we are truly sunk. I think haiku are one itsy bitsy way to remind ourselves not to lose track. To stay curious and even, sometimes, awe-struck. To laugh. To celebrate the occasional win. Here goes.

I hate the sound of leaf blowers. Hurray for birdsong!
We can all agree on this!
I need to start saving all of the birds I find to my list – I just use the app to identify the sounds, but it’s so satisfying to see how many of yours are also in my backyard, too!!!
(Also, we need a serious chat with the neighbors about coordinating leaf-blower days. Can we all agree to do it Wednesday at 4? And I’ll leave the house for a couple hours???)
Our Audubon Society leads free beginner birdwalks — I’ll bet yours does too! It has helped inspired me to keep my list up!
