When I woke up early this morning it was cold and rainy.
Seriously, seriously chilly.
And I’ve been getting just a tad bit tired of 90-degree days so I put the kettle on and didn’t give my running shoes another thought.
Instead I came to my desk and began transforming my latest manuscript from a 3rd-person story into a 1st-person story.
I realized last week that this had to happen but I didn’t make the time to tackle it. Probably because I was a little disgruntled. Because I had just finished it. Sigh.
Couldn’t I have realized this rather critical detail a few weeks back?
Y’know, so this all could’ve happened in a more orderly and efficient fashion.
Are there people out there who really lead linear lives???
Nevermind. Don’t tell me. I’d rather not know.
Anyway, I walked my way into it this morning and I was right! This is what it needed!
I’m not done, but I’m so happy.
And the weather doesn’t hurt, either.
Sometimes all you need is a little change of perspective…
Well it’s quite cold down here in Texas right now too 🙂 . My writing pens have practically frozen into inksicles. Time for some warm chili.

Yep — that’s where I am — Texas!
Glad that the change worked out for you. It feels SO good when something like that happens!
I know. I’m sure the tough tweaking still lies ahead, but at least it’s finding its voice…
I finally quit apologizing to my writer’s group for not working linearly. It just doesn’t happen that way for me. It’s always circles or worse, mazes.
Here’s to a new point of view! And for “walking” into it. Aren’t we going to have that whole body/writing discussion? Maybe we can do a dual post about it, like jules and eisha do joint reviews.

That’s a great idea… Let’s talk. I’ll send you a note…
Ahhhh
Wow, I think I just had an epiphany moment. I’ve accepted that I’m not a linear person. I even wrote a post about it: http://sothethingisblog.blogspot.com/2007/08/i-dont-do-linear.html So why would I expect that my WRITING would be linear? I know a lot of people who write books from start to finish, A to Z. But there are also people who write their way around the story and come back to fill in the gaps, right? I’m struggling with this one stupid chapter in my novel and I guess I’m just not ready to write it or something because it’s not, but NOT coming along. I know, maybe I’ll skip it and come back to it and get on with things.
Wow. I can’t believe I never thought of that. THANK YOU!
Re: Ahhhh
Oh, yea!!! I just love epiphanies. Whosever they may be…
This is too funny. I went through the same thing a couple of months ago–changing my WIP from third person to first person. And man. Did I ever breathe life into this. The only problem is, I’m creating a whole new story…
Right, but if the same old story, y’know, sucks, well then, best to move on. Right?
I love first-person stories. I guess that’s because…it’s how we perceive the world.
Well, duh. That is SUCH a good point. I mean, of course. But why did I never think of it that way?
