So our challenge for this month was haiku because, well, it’s summer vacation.
And we wanted something super duper easy.
Something we could just toss off in a couple of minutes.
(Insert evil laugh track here.)
I think we should re-name our challenge the “It Wasn’t As Easy As It Looked” challenge.
Anyway, we did it — haiku.
Although lots of us actually did senryu, or senryu-haiku hybrids or something.
Mine are sort of seasonal in nature (seasonal in nature — ha! — that’s a genuine haiku joke!) so maybe they qualify as straight haiku, but regardless…
Here’s the fun part:
We modeled all of our haiku after classifieds.
The old-fashioned kind that showed up in, y’know, newspapers.
Here are mine….
Free for the taking:
All food except raspberries
(seasonal cuisine)
Hot girl seeks sweater
and a/c that’s much too cold:
Summer Matinee
Wanted: stolen hours
huge latte, a comfy spot.
(I can’t put this book down)

I think every theater in the States has that too-cold AC thing going — with a latte and/or hot popcorn, though, it all works out!
Never Super-Duper Easy, is an alternate name for our challenge…
You’d think we get this down, the super duper easy part, but it doesn’t seem to be happening. So I’m happy with super duper fun 🙂
xxoxoxo
I’m that hot girl in December, so that AC poem speaks to me. I keep telling myself it’s just a phase, but I know better!
Replace that latte with a tea and I’m with you on needing a comfy chair and some quiet time to read.
And I’ll second Tanita’s new name for our challenges!
Tea for you, latte for me.
Now we just need our comfy spot.

Me and a huge latte = BFF. Iced latte in the summertime! Everything seems in season now—stone fruit, berries, tomatoes, corn. I’m in foodie heaven. My husband’s thing is blackberries; I can’t get enough peaches. Or BLTs. Or poetry with writers like you.
P.S. Perhaps we are the Never Super-Duper Easy Sisters….hahaha.
OK, so I was being a LITTLE narrow in my food choices 🙂
Our kids and partners would likely agree with Sara’s name suggestion:>) These are fabulous–nothing like a cold movie theater in August for a great escape!
My favorite’s the stolen hours one, though. I adore that parenthetical confession of the last line.
The last one speaks to me! I love the first line.
I had a feeling that one would be the favorite with this crowd!
Mmmmm, BLTs. Fresh tomatoes… cheese sauce…
I am that sweater girl in the AC too. And yes, “Perhaps we are the Never Super-Duper Easy Sisters….hahaha.” 🙂
Maybe the FOUND POEMS will be easy, right? One can hope….
SO love these. Although it would have to be pretty cold for me to need a sweater these days, since I have my own heating system. :/
Really loved these, and I agree that these weren’t nearly as easy as they sounded.
heee heee — the sweater, tis wishful thinking….
You wrote #3 just for me, right?!?! 🙂
but of course!
I love the idea of modeling haiku after want ads. Seems a perfect fit! I like them all, but the last one calls to me! Thanks for sharing.
