Tall One: Has C.S. Lewis died?
Me: Yes, quite a time ago.
Tall One: Pooey.
Me: Why?
Tall One: I’d like to write him a letter. And tell him how good his books are.
Small One: Yeah. And how I want to be Lucy.
Tall One: And how our robes are like the coats in the wardrobe.
Small One: And how some people even call me Lucy.
Tall One: But they don’t!
Small One: But C.S. Lewis doesn’t know that. It’s just to show him that we really love her.
Tall One: That we love the whole book.
Small One: Hmm.
Tall One: I know. Too bad. Well. Read another chapter, Mama…
I hope C.S. is listening in from heaven.
No doubt. I bet he gets a frequent earful.
Yes, read another chapter, Mama. They’ll grow out of those robes far too soon. (Though I bet they keep their Lucy-hearts forever.)
I hope so…
Bless their sweet hearts! (I hope you’re journal-ling these conversations!)
Live Journal-ing as a matter of fact 🙂
That is marvelous.
I know. Don’t you know JUST how they feel????

There’s a book I love called C.S. Lewis’ Letters to Children, and this is the end of the Amazon review:
Lewis never tired of corresponding with his child fans. His final letter, to a boy named Philip was written on November 21, 1963. The following day Lewis passed away peacefully at his Oxford home. Earlier, he had written the following to a group of fifth graders:
“I’m tall, fat, rather bald, red-faced, double-chinned, black-haired, have a deep voice, and wear glasses for reading.
The only way for us to get to Aslan’s country is through death, as far as I know: perhaps some very good people get just a tiny glimpse before then.
Best love to you all. When you say your prayers sometimes ask God to bless me,
Yours ever, C.S. Lewis”
The girls should know: he would have loved to hear from them.

Oh my lord, Tanita. That just brings me to my knees. I need to get that book. Maybe that’ll be our next read-aloud, after the Chronicles themselves…
“perhaps some very good people get just a tiny glimpse before then…”
Sigh….
that letter just sent chills up my spine! holy moly! that lucy comment makes me want to plant a big smooch on the small one. “some people even call me lucy” “no they don’t”.
hahahahhahahahahhahahahaha
